Steve, I'm very pleased you started this blog. It's good to have a liberal blogger in Howard County who'll keep us all on top of issues at the county, state, and national level. Here's a thought on an issue you should post: The School Board vacancy that is going to be created when Mary Kay Sigaty is sworn into the County Council. Who should be appointed? What are the pluses and minuses? Certainly an important issue.

Steve,

It is nice to have a variety of voices in Howard County blogs and yours is a welcome addition.

I would like to see you share more of your thoughts though. Too often you just give a one sentence comment and a link to someone else's viewpoint.

Steve,
I like this blog very much as I told you previously. It is current and informative with the focus on Howard County. But even with that focus, state and national issues concerning Democrats are not left out.

Please consider posing this quesiton to your readers: Should the Democrats winning strategy for 2008 be to appeal to the center and independents whom they won over significantly and decisively in the election or should they stay to the left and appeal more to the base, which was so loyal?

Steve,

I think they should do what is best for the country. If they govern effectively, they should keep both their base and the independents.

Fixing Iraq, respecting the Constitution, fixing healthcare, enacting and fixing the economy should be their focus. Some of those are more easily said than done.

But its time to see policy come before politics.

For the Democrates to win in 2008, they need to first ORGANIZE, second they need to promote grassroots activity. Not just to win voters, but to know what the voter wants. Third they have to understand, well enough to know the effects of, communications, mainly the internet. The internet distroyed Kerry. Once they do this they will have a good run for the next 10 to 12 years

It would be ideal for policy to come before politics, but that 's not likely. All policy decisions will have to meet the politial consequences test. And the political decsions could be problemmatic.

Nancy Pelosi is already embarking down the wrong political road by pushing Murtha for Majority Leader and scandal-laden Hastings for Intelligence Committee Chariman. I'm beginning to be concerned about her wisdom politically and the impact for 2008 and beyond.
