Right now as you are reading this, the United States of America is torturing people, or having other nations torture people on our behalf. Right now, our President claims to have the authority to hold whoever he wants in prison, indefinably, for as long as he wants and with no access to legal counsel or meaningful judicial review.
And what is the Democratic Congress doing about it? Sure, I realize that they are just getting settled in and that, heck, they haven't even assigned parking spaces yet.
But these issues seem a wee bit urgent to me.
